Today, Home Decor Ideas blog will three very simple decorating tips for your home. Sometimes we look away from the most basic and simple things, however, these things are the ones that last for decades. And this is the case of these home decor ideas. Since good design advice is timeless, we will present you three tips from three pioneering interior designers Elsie de Wolfe, Dorothy Draper, and Billy Baldwin. Decades after their time, their pieces of advice about design are still true, no matter what is the style in question. Each of these greats had a unique idea of good taste, but all had careers that championed the revolutionary idea of individuality within the home. They all knew that thoughtful, personal choices are what stand the test of time and that any so-called design “rules” are meant to be broken. These are the reasons why today we will show you their brilliant tips and show you some beautiful interior design projects which we believe have worked with these tips and ideas.
“Suitability, simplicity, and proportion.” —Elsie de Wolfe
Simplicity doesn’t mean lack of personality and this is the perfect example of that. This beautiful interior designed by Michele Bonan is full of life and it has a great personality. Everything is perfectly proportional and we are in love with it.
Another beautiful example how everything matches perfectly, everything suits this room design and even though it is very simple, it will have a lot of impact to anyone who enters here.
A beautiful and simple dining room designed by top interior designer Helen Green. Once again, the words “suitability, simplicity, and proportion” are the order of the day.

“Remember, you are going to have to live with whatever you pick out, so don’t buy on impulse; sit down and try to picture the room you want to create.” —Dorothy Draper
The idea here is to not just create something for no reason. Should a design that will reflect your personality and enjoy every single thing on it.

“Your guest room should be just as comfortable as your own bedroom, and the only way you can be sure of it is to move in yourself for a trial weekend.” —Billy Baldwin
This is definitely a guest room where you will want to pass a lot of nights as well. Amazing design.
Take the advice from Billy Baldwin and make everybody who visits your house not want to leave it.
We believe that the main point here is that we shouldn’t leave any room design left behind, every place of our house should be equally important.

I believe that simplicity is a very important factor to consider that most designers seem to ignore. It seems that most designers now a days have a tendency to go way too detailed, making the room look uncomfortable to look at. Thanks for sharing!

Hey, wonderful design! I want to decor my house with some specious and elegant designs. Here I have found the best. Now I am really exited to do that accordingly. Thanks to you that you have shared such a great design.
I absolutely love the dining room pictured above that was designed by Helen Green. I’ve actually been thinking about revamping the interior of my home, and so I’ll definitely want to try to mimic her design. The only change that I’d make to it, however, would be to install more lighting as I like bright spaces.

I love the quotes you included! I was looking for a good interior design quote and was disappointed by a lot of pages I found. These ones are great!
If we have a guest room like those in the images, then the guest won’t be guest for a long. They would become a part of the family. Really irresistible ideas for guest rooms. Will be using some of them soon. Thanks, dear for writing about it.
I really love the picture of the gray mater bedroom. I love how it makes it look sleek, but the selling point really is that white/silver chandelier that drapes down and has an ethereal quality to it. I love the monotone color play in the room with the grays and how the white wall stands out behind the headboard of the bed. These are some good ideas since I’m planing to do some renovation. I hope I can find a professional who could help me do something similar to this.

I agree that simplicity doesn’t have to mean a lack of personality in home decor. I love the example of the dining room. There is nothing gaudy about it, but all the colors are harmonious. I think just a few nice decorative touches like the skeleton and the vases in the living room photo really make a huge difference in the over-all feel of a room. Thanks for sharing!
