Renowned for his unique range of styles and by his eclectic yet sophisticated interior design projects, Martyn Lawrence Bullard is a Los Angeles-based top interior designer who builds opulent designs celebrating the diverse skill and unique craftsmanship of cultures around the globe.
Kylie Jenner, the wildly popular entrepreneur, reality-television star, and youngest member of the Jenner/Kardashian just opened her house to Architectural Digest. For the Instagram influencer “colour was essential”, especially pink.
“I told Martyn I wanted a fresh, fun vibe to match the way I was feeling. Color was essential. I love pink, and I wanted a lot of it!” – Kylie Jenner
Sly nods to Kylie Cosmetics, Jenner’s blockbuster business, abound. In the dining room, for example, the leather upholstery on the chairs was custom-dyed to match colours from Kylie’s lipstick collection, ranging from ceruse to pale pink to deep garnet. Pieces from Damien Hirst’s “I Love You” series anchor the dining room. Brass chandelier by Coup D’etat; custom table and chairs by Martyn Lawrence Bullard with a shag rug by Woven.
“My current favourite celebrity interior I have designed has to be Kylie Jenner. Her new home is bursting with personality. It had a great collection of colourful pop art along with edgy and interesting photography that plays well against the collection of eclectic furnishings, ranging from Paul Evans and Pierre Cardin vintage pieces to Yves Klein, Ralph Pucci and the Haas brothers.” – Martyn Lawrence Bullard
Kourtney Kardashian’s luxury dining room is also great for entertaining. The modern, yet comfortable dining area is perfect for when the entire family comes over for special occasions. That love of discovery is shared by Kourtney, who immersed herself in the history of 20th-century design to build the foundation of a serious collection. In Kourtney’s dining room, Martyn Lawrence Bullard placed a bespoke table and a suite of vintage Pierre Jeanneret chairs from JF Chen under a José Esteves chandelier from Intérieurs; the framed artwork is by Roy Lichtenstein, the James Prestini metal sculpture at left is from Blackman Cruz, and the carpet is by Mansour Modern.
The kitchen dining room, with Standard chairs by Jean Prouvé. For Kourtney, the heart of the home is the kitchen:
“I like to cook and my children join the babysitter and the chef in an environment designed with several eating areas, on the counter, at the breakfast table or in the area where they celebrate informal meals. We have furnished it with mid-century pieces and modern works of art to give continuity in this space to the spirit of the whole house.” – Martyn Lawrence Bullard
Featuring a chandelier by Zia Priven and a modern rug by Marc Phillips, this contemporary dining room is one of the most outstanding areas inside this home.
“I really like to make the most of different areas and have drinks in one, dinner in another, then watch a movie. That’s what I did with this house — I created my own destination.” – Martyn Lawrence Bullard
“Martyn brought a lot of color, texture, and life to the project. I love exotic places, and he knows how to conjure a fantasy that still feels playful and appropriate for kids. I didn’t want anything too stiff or serious.” – Alessandra Ambrosio
With help from designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio crafts a haven in Santa Monica, California, that echoes the sunny delights of her native Brazil. In the dining room, an antique Moroccan pendant illuminates a table and chairs by Thomas Hayes Studio.
“I’d describe her style as Brazilian boho meets California rock ’n’ roll. We wanted to do something that feels young and fresh, not just for the children but for Alessandra as well. She has an incredibly vivacious spirit.” – Martyn Lawrence Bullard
The top interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard puts his signature touch on an airy southern California retreat. An azure pendant from Tobi Tobin complements chairs from Mecox, a table from Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and an antique Dutch cabinet in this sumptuous dining room.
Custom cabinetry and French antiques define this vintage dining room. Pink flowers sit in a vase from Robert Kuo.
When his clients requested “mad old aunt” decor to suit their Rhode Island home’s 1840s architecture, Martyn Lawrence Bullard responded with layers of pattern, mix-and-match colours, and wallpaper in every nook and cranny. This dining room boasts ocean views on three sides. The crystal Spanish-galleon chandelier from Sans Pretention is Bullard’s “whimsical nod to the beach.” The Victorian-style chairs are custom, the wallcovering, Cole and Son and the curtains in an Osborne & Little velvet.
