In the living room, sofas by Francesco Binfaré and Vladimir Kagan and a Campana Brothers cocktail table rest on a Khorassan carpet from Mansour. The wall sculpture above the fireplace is by Daniel Arsham.

Tyler Ellis is the daughter of American fashion icon Perry Ellis and television writer and producer Barbara Gallagher, and much like her late father, she has a taste for what might best be described as modern classics—a deftly calibrated mix of simple, timeless lines and contemporary panache.

A custom Frederik Molenschot bronze chandelier commands the dining room. Sé chairs surround an oak-and-granite table by The Archers, and the niche is lined with black-and-gray mirror inspired by a 1979 Ettore Sottsass vase.

The style applies not only to her own luxury creations but also to the chic, breezy Brentwood home she shares with her husband, investor Benjamin Shriner.

Crowned by a Mario Botta hanging light for Artemide, the main bedroom is outfitted with a Maarten Baas fauteuil, a Joseph-André Motte side chair, an Alberto Giacometti floor lamp, and a custom rug loosely based on a Francis Picabia watercolor.

Seduced by the property’s French-inflected, classical-meets-Deco architecture and its abundant Italian cypresses, the two purchased the house five years ago and called upon its original architect, William Hefner, and Tyler Ellis’s longtime interior designers.

The bedroom is outfitted with a Romeo Sozzi bed by Promemoria, a Joseph-André Motte Chair, a Max Ingrand lamp, and a custom carpet inspired by a Francis Picabia watercolor.

“It felt like a little piece of Europe that landed in the center of L.A. We loved the traditional architecture and wanted to keep it serious and sophisticated, but on the inside, we wanted to give it a more youthful character, with bright pops of color, lots of fun, and little bits of happiness everywhere,” – Tyler Ellis says of the design mandate.

The entry hall features a Paola Pivi polar bear sculpture, a Romeo Rega console table, an André Dubreuil chair, and a Richard Avedon portrait of Perry Ellis.

He also designed a new back house containing Tyler Ellis’s home office, a lounge and theater, and another guest suite.

“Our goal was to make the whole compound consistent, to keep the language classical as a counterpoint to The Archers’ more contemporary interventions,” – the architect explains.

Tyler Ellis’s dressing room has a Verner Panton chandelier, a Warren Platner stool, and a cashmere carpet by Stark.

For the furnishings of the home, The Archers drew inspiration from the late designer Henri Samuel’s iconoclastic Paris apartment, where period rooms were leavened with anachronistic, idiosyncratic elements.

The library ensemble includes a Gerrit Rietveld sofa by Cassina, an Yves Klein table, a Marie Suri fire screen, a Piero Fornasetti cabinet, and a custom Tai Ping carpet by The Archers. The painting is by Karl Benjamin.

That heady brew coalesces with particular brio in what Ellis calls her “brandy room”—a dazzling library-cum-lounge, enrobed in dark blue lacquered walls, where a Demétre Chiparus bronze panther stalks a Jeff Koons pink balloon swan, a flock of 19th-century Chinese-export porcelain parrots gossips on one of a pair of Piero Fornasetti leopard demilune commodes, and a Yves Klein Monogold table alights on a custom silk carpet in a riot of peacock colors.
