A Modern Home in Paris is a perfectly calibrated mix of old and new, decorator Joseph Karam’s Paris project features a museum-worthy collection of art and design. Stay with us to see this amazing project and a list of furniture pieces for you to create a similar Modern Home.
Nowhere in this Modern Home is this contrast more acutely felt than in the entrance hallway, where a majestic Roman statue, keeps company with Corinthian supporting columns and a newly installed geometric marble floor. The effect is one of hallowed calm, reminiscent of an ancient temple, but in fact, the two-ton statue’s arrival was anything but dignified.
In the rest of the Modern Home, Karam removed a few walls but otherwise respected the integrity of the architecture, retaining paneling and replacing cornices.
“As with most apartments in Paris, the search for natural light was important,” he says.
As with all of Karam’s projects, a significant number of custom furnishings for this luxurious Paris home were designed, including a black-and-yellow bespoke kitchen and a historically-inspired cabinet that ingeniously hides the air-conditioning system, everything looks perfect in this Modern Home.
Gilding on walls, ceiling, and doors were restored using real gold leaf and traditional craft techniques.
