A great plethora of design events, conferences and trade shows take place around the world every year. As a result, it sometimes seems hard to choose which one to attend. To help you out, we’ve compiled a definitive guide to over 20 of the best design events for your calendar.
Monday 14 – Sunday 20 January, Cologne, Germany
The first interiors trade fair of the year featured products by more than 1,100 suppliers from 50 countries.
Friday 18 – Tuesday 22 January, Paris, France
Cecilie Manz was Designer of the Year for Maison&Objet’s January 2018 edition, which features products for all design sectors, which are displayed across eight exhibition halls at Nord Villepinte, outside Paris.
Stockholm Design Week
Monday 4 – Sunday 10 February, Stockholm, Sweden
Big highlight on the design calendar, Stockholm’s annual design week consisted of events and installations all across the city, as well as furniture and lighting fair.
Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair
Tuesday 5 – Saturday 9 February, Stockholm, Sweden
Over 700 exhibitors showcased at 2018’s event, including Swedish design classics and rising young designers.
Arctic Design Week
Monday 18 – Sunday 23 March, Lapland, Finland
Having taken place in Lapland, last year’s Arctic Design Week included a conference programme named “out-of-the-box” – focusing on future design and how to break boundaries that can limit the creative process.
Singapore Design Week
Monday 4 – Sunday 17 March, Singapore
Returning in 2019 for its sixth year, last year’s event took place at the new National Design Centre and featured trade shows, conferences, showcases, exhibitions, and workshops.
Wednesday 6 – Saturday 9 March, Shanghai, China
2018’s fair hosted over 400 exclusive brands and galleries from over 30 countries showcasing their latest work.
Melbourne Design Week
Thursday 14 – Sunday 24 March, Melbourne, Australia
Created to highlight the best design in Australia, this series of events includes a cross-disciplinary conference, business presentations, and educational programmes.
Boston Design Week
Wednesday 27 March – Sunday 7 April, Boston, US
This 12-day citywide event aims to increase public awareness of the important role design plays in everyday life.
Milan Design Week
Monday 8 – Sunday 14 April, Milan, Italy
Milan’s design week is the biggest annual get-together in the design calendar. The main event is the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, but there are also design districts all over the city.
Friday 10 – Wednesday 22 May, New York, US
This design event showcases design of all disciplines in all five of New York City’s boroughs, with fairs including ICFF, WantedDesign, Brooklyn Designs, and a host of talks, installations and showroom events in designated districts.
Barcelona Design Week
Saturday 4 – Tuesday 14 June, Barcelona, Spain
Conferences, exhibitions, business me, things and networking sessions take place in the Catalonian capital for that week-long design event.
Design Miami /Basel
Tuesday 11 – Sunday 16 June, Basel, Switzerland
Design Miami’s partner event takes place at the Messe Basel exhibition hall.
Wednesday 26 – Saturday 29 June, London, UK
Wednesday 3 – Saturday 6 July, London, UK
The graduate exhibition returns to London for 2019, with the first part including textiles and fashion, costume design, jewellery and metalwork from students all over the UK.
Australian International Furniture Fair
Thursday 18 – Sunday 21 July, Melbourne, Australia
Furniture from Australia and New Zealand are on the main show at this trade.
São Paulo Design Weekend
Sunday 18 – Sunday 25 August, São Paulo, Brazil
The only major event that takes place in August, São Paulo Design Weekend is a celebration of Latin American design. It includes hundreds of independent events, from trade fairs to cocktail parties.
Paris Design Week
Thursday 5 – Saturday 14 September, Paris, France
Paris Design Week encompasses 2019’s second installment of out-of-town trade fair Maison & Objet, plus opens studios and design shows around the city center, with work by students, graduates, and upcoming designers.
London Design Festival
Saturday 14 – Sunday 22 September, London, UK
London Design Festival takes place all over the UK capital. It includes installations at the V&A, as well as a series of design shows, including London Design Fair and 100% Design.
Beijing Design Week

Exhibitions and installations are created in Beijing’s hutongs, industrial warehouses and artists’ communities for China’s most important design event.
Dubai Design Week
(dates to be decided), Dubai, UAE
International designers presented furniture, lighting, textiles and technology to markets in the Middle East and North Africa.

Taking place alongside the World Architecture Festival, Inside celebrates the year’s best interior design projects.
